ABOUT ME
I am a multiracial artist that dabbles in many mediums but always utilizes my love for acrylic painting. My art has an emphasis in self portraits and recreations of personal photos, taken by either me or my family. Coming from Black, Mexican, and Japanese descent, it was always difficult acknowledging self worth with such conflicting beauty standards. With my skin and my lack of knowledge of each culture, I found myself never fully fitting into any community. In my journey of self-love, the discovery of self-portraiture provides me the opportunity to gaze back at myself through the act of painting. This form of self-exploration, allows me to focus on my strengths rather than my perceived flaws and has enabled me to see beauty in myself that has taken a long time to acknowledge. In doing so, I have come to understand that the process of acceptance is never-ending. But through my pieces, I’m able to embrace myself a little more each time.
My hope through my art is that I can inspire others to embrace their own unique qualities and see their own beauty, both inside and out. Because of that, I am straying less from accuracy and altering my focus to experimenting and just creating pieces I enjoy making. This is why I am inspired by everyday artists that lack some form of reality with the intention of extending my own boundaries.
